Marcela Martinez Ibarra

PhD Researcher

Marcela joins the Spatial Economics department as a PHD student. Her research interests are related to daily mobility and urban structure. She graduated as an Economist from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and has a Master’s Degree in Urban Studies, with a focus on Urban and Regional Economics, obtained in El Colegio de México.

Before coming to the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, she worked as a senior analyst in real estate market research and has been a consultant for different projects in the field of urban planning and spatial modeling, including the General Program of Urban Development 2015 – 2030 for Mexico City, participatory workshops of the Mexican Council for Sustainable Urban Development, Master Program of the Train Maya project in the south region of Mexico, business case for a suburban train in Sonora, Mexico, among others.
