GETS is a European Research Network for the Application of Geomorphology and Environmental Impact Assessment to Transportation Systems
Several natural disasters in the past and recent history, ranging from floods, avalanches and landslides, have demonstrated clearly the direct and indirect relations between large transport infrastructure and the natural environment. However, in the planning and design of major transport systems, often not much consideration is given to the geomorphological assets and conditions along the planned tracks.
